PICK OF THE WEEK: On Wednesday, Sept. 22 House of Blues Sunset Strip and The Roxy Theatre partner for #HOBROX – a free, all-ages live music showcase featuring some of the hottest up-and-coming bands from The Sunset Strip. The lineup includes Hypercrush, Wicker, The Cataracs featuring Dev and Donnis. The partnership is part of Social Media Week in Los Angeles and follows a panel discussion,"The Next Stage of Engage: Bringing Online Music Communities to Life", about the role of social media in the live music industry. The panel begins at 6 p.m., with the live music party kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Both events are FREE, but RSVP is required.
Book Soup hosts author Will Fellows on Thursday, Sept. 23 as he presents and signs copies of his new book, Gay Bar: The Fabulous, True Story Of A Daring Woman And Her Boys In The 1950s. Fellows sheds new light on the story of Helen Branson, a divorced grandmother who owned and operated a gay bar in Los Angeles in the 1950s, a time when California statutes prohibited homosexuals from gathering in bars.
