The wind can’t stop the crews from continuing The Sunset Strip Beautification Project! Sidewalks, curbs continue to be repaired while crews prep to begin paving Sunset between Alta Loma Road and San Vicente.

Crews have started constructing the new sidewalk on the south side of Sunset Plaza. Sunset Plaza patrons are encouraged to park in the parking lots behind the buildings where there are ample free parking spaces if visiting a shop or restaurant at Sunset Plaza. The contractor will start constructing the new storm drains in the median islands of Sunset Plaza on Sunset. The medians will be restored once the sidewalks are finished.

For the area between Alta Loma Road and Sunset Plaza Drive, there is ample additional parking available to the public at “The Sunset” located at 8560-8570 Sunset Blvd. This parking lot is open 24 hours a day, and parking is according to their posted rates. Enter the parking structure through Alta Loma Road.

On Sunday, May 9, the contractor began the cold planing, a process in which the top layers of the concrete pavement are ground up and removed in order to repair the surface of the road. This work is being done Sunday through Thursday at night between the hours of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Work will only be done during the next two weeks. This work is required to be done at night due to mitigations by the Regional Air Quality Management District as traffic volumes are lighter during these hours with less dust being kicked up into the air. This work is going fast and the cold plane operation could be finished by the middle of next week.

Crews are making repairs to damaged sections of roadways. These are areas where they will remove the entire section of concrete road, strengthen the soil beneath the road and then replace the roadway to be ready for the paving later.

Starting May 17, the base layer of asphalt between Alta Loma and San Vicente will be paved during the daytime hours (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.). Vehicles will be allowed to drive on the grinded down surface and the base layer of paved asphalt.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during the construction and temporary lane closures. Please remember that all businesses will be open during their normal business hours, and we encourage you to support your local businesses during construction.
