Sunset Strip Picks: March 1-7

As we emerge from a stormy weekend, it’s the beginning of a new month and another great week of shows on The Sunset Strip. Here’s what’s happening:

Monday, March 1 the Viper Room presents the spacey alt-rock sounds of Costa Nova.  Drawing on a wide range of influences, this fusion rock act is reminiscent of the ambient and jammy feel of bands like Jane’s Addiction and Incubus. Also joining Costa Nova are Puss N Boots, Uriah, Laarks and Theory Of Flight. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. www.viperroom.com

RH Celebrates Oscar Weekend With “Julie & Julia” Menu

This weekend RH at Andaz presents a delectable dinner menu that film lovers, foodies and Francophiles alike will adore. The acclaimed restaurant will feature a multi-course menu that celebrates Meryl Streep’s Oscar-nominated portrayal of the beloved Julia Child in “Julie & Julia.”

A master of the art of Southwestern French cooking, Chef Sebastien Archambault will offer his version of dishes that Child shared through her many cookbooks and television shows – the perfect poached egg, lobster thermidor, beef bourguignonne and babas au rum.

The special three-course dinner menu features:

Perigourdine poached egg
Field mushrooms, foie gras, black truffle

Lompoc Farm leeks vinaigrette
Black truffle, fresh goat cheese, crispy Applewood bacon

***
Boothbay Harbor lobster open ravioli
Bisque sauce

Construction Update: March 2-8

During work hours (Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) lanes will be reduced to one travel lane in the eastbound and one travel lane in the westbound direction. At the end of the day lanes will be reopened to two lanes of traffic in each direction.

Please remember that all businesses will be open during their normal business hours, and we encourage you to support your local businesses during construction.

During the weekday work hours, crews will continue grinding of the pavement. The old concrete is creating a lot of dust, so in an effort to combat this the sweepers are constantly running. The crews cannot use water to control the dust, because it turns into mud which will be tracked by cars along the boulevard and get into the storm drains that go directly to the ocean.

Street Beat: Black Jackets, Leather & Neon

The stylish, the fun, the trendsetters. They all reveled in The Strip on Friday night, sporting black jackets, sharp suits, leather, neon and graphic Ts.

Luckily for us, Brent X. Mendoza was there to capture it.
